Dear Gorilla Families,

As you know we have been busy preparing for our “return to learning” this fall! The last few weeks we have laid out plans to return students to in-person learning and to accommodate our fully-online students. We feel we have a good plan in place and are almost ready to see our Gorilla family.

However, as like most things during this pandemic, we were thrown a curve ball on Friday, August 21st and do not yet have access to our online content. Despite our work with our partner company over the past several weeks, the increase in volume for companies that provide rich online content is exponential. Therefore, they are backed up as schools across the country develop plans similar to ours. This has created some challenges for these companies, as well as schools.

Based on this new development, we feel it is best to delay the start of school by ONE WEEK to ensure that we are operational with our online curriculum and content. The first day will now be Wednesday, September 2nd. By pushing our start date back a week, we align with other local Lincoln County schools. Due to this change, we will be updating our school district calendar; a new calendar will be provided to families once it is finalized and approved.

PREVIOUS PLANS REMAIN THE SAME: We are just delaying our start by one week.

Our in-person students will still begin the year in the “orange zone” in AM and PM schedules with pods/cohorts. You should have received a call about which AM or PM cohort/pod your child is in. If you have not yet received a call, we can assure you that it will be happening soon. Based on information from the Lincoln County Department of Health, they are encouraging schools to start slow, and we are cautiously optimistic that our AM/PM “orange zone” might end and shift to the “yellow zone” half-day schedule by the end of September or beginning of October based on case count at that time. We are committed to providing you updates when we hear more from the health department.

We are still planning to dual-enroll our in-person students, as well as our fully-online students in our online learning platform. This way our Davenport School District students remain together in their learning whether they are on-site or online. This delayed start will provide us all time to get everything ready for our students, teachers, and families once our online company has coordinated our district’s services.

We apologize deeply for this “hiccup” that just occurred on Friday and hope to get it resolved very soon. Our staff is committed and very excited to get our students back into our schools. We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we all navigate this pandemic together. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
