Reopening Schools

Click here for updates and clarification on our ATTENDANCE POLICIES for the upcoming shift to the 2:00 PM schedule

January 22, 2021

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

We are excited to announce that we are officially extending the school day for all students TK-12 to 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 26th. The current school week will remain the same with students attending school in person Monday - Thursday from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm, Fridays will remain in place as remote only days with the school being open for those students who are in need of extra time and support. We are going to outline what our new school day schedule will look like below at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. As always, If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to us!

What does lunch time look like?

Our kitchen staff cannot wait to start serving hot lunch again to our students! Lunch will continue to be FREE for all students! If students prefer to bring a cold lunch they may. We have worked hard to stagger the lunch times in order to ensure that we can maintain 6’ feet of social distance in the cafeteria while students are seated. We will be using the entire elementary gym along with the auditorium at the high school to space students out. We have also built recess time into each lunch period, as we know it is important for kids to have that time.

Lunch Times:

TK-K Lunch: 10:55-11:15

Grade 1 & 2 Lunch: 11:15-11:35

Grade 3 & 4 Lunch: 11:35-11:55

Grade 5 Lunch: 11:55-12:15

Grade 6 Lunch: 11:36 - 12:06

Grade 7 & 8 Lunch: 12:06 - 12:36

HS Lunch: 12:36-1:06

What does the academic schedule look like now that we are extending the day until 2:00?

TK - 5th Grade:

With the extension of our school day to 2:00 PM, the morning’s for elementary students will be very similar to the half-day schedule. Students will continue to have rotations of PE, Music, Library, and Social Emotional Learning throughout the second semester. Students will also eat lunch in the cafeteria, have a lunch recess/mask break, as well as additional mask breaks throughout the day. Teachers will also utilize this time to fill in any learning gaps that may have taken place during spring 2020 and the first part of this year through providing intentional academic support, as well as going deeper into the learning standards they are currently working on.

6th - 12th Grade:

The middle school and high school schedule will add 10 extra minutes to each class period (1-3), so each class will now be 90 minutes in length. Additionally, we will be adding an extra 50 minutes of extension time after lunch from 1:10 - 2:00 pm. Teachers will utilize this time to fill in any learning gaps that may have taken place during spring 2020 and the first part of this school year. During our newly added time on Monday - Wednesday students will report back to either their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd period teachers each afternoon to engage in meaningful learning based on grade level standards. On Thursday of each week we hope to include class and club meetings, academic support time, home ec, and possibly intramurals for students who are in good academic standing.

Will there be additional mask breaks and what about breakfast/ snack break for students?

Yes, we know that going to 2:00 pm and adding lunch and recess time back in is going to be a lot for our kids. Our plan is to build in additional mask breaks and a snack break at the high school since their lunch time is not until 12:36 pm each day. The kitchen staff will be delivering breakfast “Grab & Go Bags” with breakfast/snacks every morning to students TK-12. These are also FREE to all students!

Will there still be internet cafe and after school studies?

Yes! The elementary will continue to offer the after school internet cafe for students to attend from 2:00pm until 3:00pm Monday-Thursday. The middle school & high school will also continue to offer after school studies from 2:00pm-4:00pm Monday-Thursday. This is of no cost and is open to all students! Additionally, our school buildings across the district are open to students on Friday’s to come in and receive support from our staff! Please reach out to our staff and teachers to make an appointment to come in!

We want to extend a big “thank you” to everyone for your continued support. We care deeply about your children's education and look forward to extending our day so we can set our students on a path full of “endless possibilities”!
